Side Effect is older, from 2016, part of the house's Carnal Blends line. Fragrantica lists rum, tobacco, cinnamon and saffron over sandalwood and hedione. It is a bar at midnight: boozy, sweet, warm and slightly wicked. No oud anywhere in the pyramid.
What they do share is saffron and sheer volume. Both are strong, both are winter-first, both fill a room. That is where the kinship ends. Oud for Greatness answers "I want one serious oud".
