The oil for Violet Stain arrived on 22 October 2026, and this page went live the same day. We called it Violet Stain because the original is named after purple wine stains soaking into an old leather journal. We kept the stain and moved one shade along the colour wheel, to violet.

What Purple Stain smells like
It opens hot. Saffron, cinnamon bark, nutmeg and ginger, with mandarin and bergamot keeping the spice from going flat.
Then it turns sweet. Orange blossom, caramel, Peru balsam and vanilla. Peru balsam is a resin with a soft, vanilla and cinnamon warmth, so the heart feels rich rather than sugary.
The base is the dark part: oud, patchouli and cypriol, with cistus and akigalawood. Akigalawood is a patchouli material with a peppery, woody edge. Smoky, resinous, a little boozy.
The house's own picture for it is purple wine stains spreading across the pages of an old leather journal. Fragrantica voters file it as oriental spicy, with warm spicy, woody and oud accords up front, then amber and balsamic. They wear it most in winter and autumn, and far more at night than by day. When we checked, it held 4.13 out of 5 from 508 votes there.

Who it suits and when to wear it
Anyone who likes oud but wants it warm and sweet rather than medicinal. Fragrantica lists Purple Stain for women and men. It is at its best on cold nights: dinner, a winter wedding, a long evening out.

BORNTOSTANDOUT sell Purple Stain as an Extrait Extrême, their most concentrated line, aged in traditional Korean Onggi pottery. Violet Stain is an Extrait de Parfum, made at up to 35%. They are different grades, so we do not turn it into a strength contest. What we promise is the smell, at £40, with 60 days to decide.
Some cheap dupes use cheaper oils and stretch them with DPG, Ambroxan and other fillers. We never add DPG. Our oils are built by specialist fragrance houses, every batch is rested more than once, and we smell every batch against the original.
What we do not claim is that it is the same liquid. It is not. It is the same scent family, at a price you can check.
