Fountains, Versailles and racehorses
Parfums de Marly, founded by Julien Sprecher in 2009, models itself on the world of Louis XV: the elegance of Versailles and the aristocratic love of purebred horses. Layton is named after one of those racehorses. Its perfumer, Hamid Merati-Kashani, described the idea as the royal fountains of France cascading with a bold aromatic scent, horses all around. Apple, lavender and vanilla
What he made is a balanced oriental floral. It opens bright with apple, bergamot and clean lavender, moves through a soft heart of geranium, violet and jasmine, then settles into the part everyone loves: warm, creamy vanilla spiced with cardamom and pepper over sandalwood and guaiac wood. The fresh opening against the cosy base is what makes it so easy to wear. Light and breezy at first, comforting and rich by the end.
What it actually smells like
