1 Million vs 1 Million Privé: The Heart Changes, Not the Strength

2 min read Aug 12, 2026

The two bottles share an opening and then go separate ways. Most shop-floor advice gets this backwards, so here is the split, note by note.

1 Million (2008)

Launched in 2008 and composed by Christophe Raynaud, Olivier Pescheux and Michel Girard. The pyramid runs blood mandarin, grapefruit and mint up top, then cinnamon, spice and rose in the heart, over amber, leather, woods and Indian patchouli.

The signature is that cinnamon-and-leather warmth sitting under a bright citrus opening. It reads loud, sweet and slightly metallic.

1 Million Privé (2016)

Launched in 2016, composed by Christophe Raynaud alone. Cinnamon and blood mandarin at the top, tobacco and myrrh in the heart, tonka bean and patchouli in the base.

Look at what is missing. The grapefruit and mint are gone. So is the leather. Privé keeps the cinnamon handshake and then drops into hookah tobacco and myrrh resin, with tonka absolute doing the sweetening instead of the original's amber accord.

So what actually changes

Roughly the first ten minutes are familiar. After that the original stays bright and spicy, and Privé turns dense, smoky and resinous. Privé is also an eau de parfum against the original eau de toilette, which adds weight on top of the reformulated heart.

The honest read

Privé is not 1 Million turned up. Anyone selling it that way is skipping the tobacco and myrrh, which are the whole point. If you love the original because of the fresh mint-and-grapefruit top, Privé will feel like a different fragrance wearing the same jacket, because it is.

Practical split. The original suits daytime, offices and warm weather, where the citrus keeps it moving. Privé suits evenings and cold air, where tobacco and myrrh have something to push against. Owning both is not redundant, which is unusual for a flanker.

We hold both sides of this split. One Fortune is our version of the 2008 original, and Mil Privé takes the tobacco route. Both are 35% Extrait sprays with a 7+ hour longevity guarantee. The rest of the house sits in our Paco Rabanne-inspired collection, with the full rundown in our Paco Rabanne dupes guide.
