Lost Cherry won the Fragrance Foundation's Fragrance of the Year award for women's luxury in 2019, which is a large part of why the cherry trend happened at all. Bitter Peach followed in October 2020. People treat them as opposites. They are not.
Lost Cherry (2018)
Composed by Givaudan perfumer Louise Turner. Sour cherry, bitter almond and liquor on top, then sour cherry again with plum, Turkish rose and jasmine sambac, over tonka bean, vanilla, Peru balsam, benzoin, cinnamon, sandalwood, cedar, cloves, vetiver and patchouli.
The bitter almond is the signal. It is what gives Lost Cherry its marzipan edge, and it is the reason the fruit reads like a liqueur rather than a sweet.
Bitter Peach (2020)
Peach, blood orange, cardamom and heliotrope up top, then rum, cognac, davana and jasmine, over vanilla, Indonesian patchouli leaf, tonka bean, sandalwood, benzoin, cashmeran, labdanum, styrax and vetiver.
Davana is the interesting one. It is an aromatic herb that reads fermented and apricot-like on skin, and it is what makes Bitter Peach smell boozy rather than like a fruit salad. The rum and cognac notes then finish the job.
Where they meet
Read the two base lists side by side. Vanilla, tonka bean, benzoin, sandalwood, vetiver and patchouli appear in both. After ninety minutes or so, the fruit has burned off and you are left in very similar territory, a sweet balsamic drydown with woods underneath.
That is the useful finding. The difference lives in the first hour.
The buying advice nobody gives
If you already own one, the second is a variation rather than a contrast. Buying both at full retail to cover two occasions is money spent on a top note.
Choose on the opening. Almond and sour cherry, take Lost Cherry. Booze and stone fruit, take Bitter Peach. Neither is the stronger one, they simply reach the same place from different directions.
