BORNTOSTANDOUT launched Purple Stain in 2025, in their Extrait Extrême line. In the UK it is exclusive to Selfridges, where the 50ml is £265. Violet Stain is Aromara's take on it. A full 50ml, Extrait de Parfum up to 35%, £40.
Saffron, cinnamon bark, nutmeg and ginger open it, lifted by mandarin and bergamot. Hot spice with a bright edge. The heart turns sweet: orange blossom, caramel, Peru balsam and vanilla. Then it dries down to oud, patchouli and cypriol, with cistus and akigalawood underneath. Smoky, resinous and warm. The house's own picture for it is purple wine stains soaking into an old leather journal.
Want the saffron and oud with more sugar? Candy Oud, our take on another BORNTOSTANDOUT oud, shares the saffron, caramel, vanilla and oud, without the cinnamon and nutmeg. We make both: Candy Oud.

FAQ
Is Violet Stain a good dupe of BORNTOSTANDOUT Purple Stain?
Violet Stain follows the notes BORNTOSTANDOUT publish: saffron, cinnamon bark, nutmeg, ginger, mandarin and bergamot, then orange blossom, caramel, Peru balsam and vanilla, over akigalawood, oud, patchouli, cypriol, Ambrofix and cistus. Selfridges sell the 50ml original at £265. Ours is £40.
Why is it called Violet Stain?
Purple Stain is named after purple wine stains soaking into the pages of an old leather journal. Violet Stain keeps the stain and swaps purple for violet, its closest neighbour on the colour wheel.
What concentration is it?
BORNTOSTANDOUT sell Purple Stain as an Extrait Extrême, the most concentrated line they make. Violet Stain is an Extrait de Parfum, made at up to 35%. They are different grades, so we do not compare the two numbers.
Is it unisex?
Fragrantica lists it for women and men. Voters there wear it most in winter and autumn, and far more at night than in the day.
How long does Violet Stain last?
Violet Stain is an Extrait de Parfum, made at up to 35%. How long any scent stays depends on its notes, your skin and the weather: fresh, citrus and aquatic scents lift off sooner, while woods, amber, oud and vanilla stay with you for longer. Spray onto moisturised skin at your pulse points and let it dry without rubbing.
What if I do not like it?
You have 60 days from delivery to decide. Email sales@aromara.co.uk, send the bottle back lightly tested with at least 90% left, and we refund the product price. You pay the return postage. Full terms are in our refund policy.
