Look at an Essential Parfums bottle and you will see two names. The fragrance, and the perfumer who made it. Bois Impérial by Quentin Bisch. Velvet Iris by Dominique Ropion. Patchouli Mania by Fabrice Pellegrin.
Almost no designer house does this. The nose behind a bestselling designer scent is usually traceable only through fragrance databases, if at all.
The house launched in 2018 under Géraldine Archambault, who had spent around thirty years in the industry before starting it. Her stated aim, on the brand's own site, was to make fine perfumery cheaper to buy without making the perfumer invisible.
The manifesto asks three questions directly. Why are creative fragrances so expensive. Why do perfumers stay hidden behind brand names. Why does marketing outrank the creative work. The answer the house gives is structural: cut the packaging, cut the advertising, cut the middlemen where possible, and keep the money in the juice.
The perfumer roster is public and long. Calice Becker, Anne Flipo, Dominique Ropion, Nathalie Lorson, Sophie Labbé, Antoine Maisondieu, Bruno Jovanovic, Fabrice Pellegrin, Quentin Bisch, Mathieu Nardin, Natalie Gracia-Cetto and Jordi Fernández all have their own pages on essentialparfums.com.
Bois Impérial launched in 2020, composed by Quentin Bisch, and became the scent most people meet the brand through. An extrait version followed in 2024. Bottles are refillable, which is part of the same argument: you buy the glass once.
The honest caveat. Accessible is doing some work in that sentence. The 100 ml refillable eau de parfums are listed at 94 euros on the brand's own site. That is a fair price for niche perfumery and it is still a serious spend, roughly what a designer flanker costs in a British department store.
The house runs three of its own shops, two in Paris and one in Bordeaux. Everything else is wholesale and online, which keeps the overhead down.
So the model is real, not just messaging. Fewer layers between the formula and the buyer, and a bottle that credits the person who made it. That is a better trade than most of the category offers.
Our version of the Bois Impérial woody hum is Noble Wood, a 35% extrait spray blended in the UK. The rest of the Essential Parfums-inspired range is here.
