What Iris Debonair actually is
Creed call it a fougere floral and list it as unisex. Bergamot and absinthe up top with pink pepper and cardamom, English lavender, violet leaf and a fig pulp accord through the middle, then French iris pallida, ambrette and amberwood underneath.
Here is the useful version: it is not a floral. The iris reads as powder rather than flower, and the lavender is the loudest thing in it. It smells like a very good barbershop. Bright and peppery for the first ten minutes, then clean powder and soft violet over dry woods.
If you were expecting an earthy, rooty iris, this is not that. If you were expecting a sweet gourmand iris, it is not that either.

It also fills a real gap on our shelf. We make plenty of oud, plenty of tobacco, plenty of sweet. A clean powdery iris is something we have not had.
Where the name comes from
Two places.
Iris for the French iris pallida sitting in the base, which is the note the whole thing is built around.
Row for Savile Row. Creed was founded by a London tailor, James Henry Creed, in 1760 by the house's own account, and their copy for this one pitches it as French perfumery meeting British tailoring. The name keeps that idea without borrowing theirs.

£220 for 50ml is £440 per 100ml. Creed do sell a 100ml at £310, so buying the bigger bottle is the sensible move if you are buying the original.
