Carolina Herrera: The Designer Behind Good Girl and Its Stiletto Bottle

2 min read Jul 29, 2026

Carolina Herrera showed her first fashion collection in 1980, at the age of 41. Born in Caracas in 1939, she debuted in New York at the Metropolitan Club and built a label known for crisp white shirts and red-carpet gowns. The perfume came second.

The first Carolina Herrera fragrance launched in 1988. For years the scents sat quietly behind the clothes. That changed in 2016.

Good Girl arrived that year in a bottle shaped like a black stiletto heel, created by perfumers Louise Turner and Quentin Bisch. It opens on almond and coffee, moves into tuberose and jasmine, and dries down on tonka bean, cacao and vanilla. Sweet and dark at once. It became the brand's most successful fragrance and one of the defining women's launches of its decade.

Good Girl Blush followed in 2020, a lighter, softer reading of the same idea for people who found the original too heavy.

The honest bit sits with that heel. The bottle is a marketing object, and it sells hard. Strip it away and what remains is the accord, that almond, coffee and tuberose blend, which is the real reason people reach for it. An accord travels. A moulded glass shoe does not.

So we keep the part you actually smell.
